How is it used?

Ecstasy is nearly always swallowed as a table of capsule, but very occasionally it is snorted, smoked or injected.

Effects

  • Ecstasy can make users feel more alert and in tune with their surroundings. Sounds, colour's and emotions may seem much more intense and they may feel like they love everyone / thing around them .
  • Can raise the users temperature and make their heart beat faster.
  • It may give users lots of energy, which allows them to dance for hours. However this can leave the person feeling tired and depressed for days after taking the ecstasy
  • It can cause the user of ecstasy to experience panic attacks, anxiety and confusion.

Risks

  • Overheating and dehydration if users dance energetically without taking breaks or drinking enough fluids. It is important to take breaks and drink enough fluid, so users should sip about a pint of non-alcoholic fluids, such as fruit juice, sports drink or water every hour. (Drinking too much water can be equally dangerous)
  • Long term regular use can cause liver and kidney problems, more colds and sore throats, fatigue, anxiety, depression, irregular and heavier periods (for women) or no periods.
  • Some experts are concerned that the use of ecstasy can lead to brain damage causing depression in later life.
  • Users with a history of mental health problems may experience their symptoms becoming worse when using ecstasy.
  • Anyone with high blood pressure, heart problems, epilepsy, asthma, taking anti-depressants or who are pregnant, should not take ecstasy as they are at a great risk of illness or death.
