Substitute prescribing

Substitute prescribing is a common term used to describe a medical treatment, the prescribing of a medication, which is designed to deal with the withdrawal associated with stopping the use of certain substances, normally heroin, but sometimes alcohol and other drugs.

  • Its use is designed to reduce or eliminate the use of illicit (illegal) substances and can be used to detoxify someone who is drug dependent.
  • Impact has the support of specialist doctor's and nurses who can help explain and plan these services where required.
